E-Hotel review: The Baiyoke Sky, Thailand

The Baiyoke Sky is Thailand's tallest hotel (309 meters tall). From such a unique hotel you would expect an innovative website, which will represent the hotel's values: modernity, class, "above all the rest". I'm afraid the result is highly disappointing. Here is my first (and partial) impression:
  • The website is terribly slow (it took the content on each page between 25-35 seconds to be downloaded).

  • There is a link to the home page from the home page - who needs that?

  • Each link in the nav bar opens a new window, which kills the Back button and creates confusion among less-experienced users.

  • There is well-written information about the hotel in the home page, but the presentation is very bad in terms of scannability: lot's of text with no hierarchy - so the user can't jump directly to the content he wants, but rather to scroll down quite a lot (another problem) on his way to the information.

  • There is an option to change the text size, which is great in terms of accessibility.

  • Worst of all: the online booking system doesn't work! the "quick reservation" button is simply dead.
