Sell me something, just drop your logo first

Users hate advertisements, we all know that by now. They ignore banner ads, delete email newsletters and basically filter out any piece of information that smells like a dollar bill. Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines followed a popular path in online advertising, assisting them with capturing the user in a seemingly non-commercial environment.

They launched a beautiful Flash website which helps users to define their vacation personality, simply by dragging items into a suitcase. So, if I for example chose the surf board and the crab, they will then tell me that I'm a tourist who loves sports and sea food (brilliant!), and will match me a proper cruise. Obviously, no one is going to take this cute tool too seriously - it's here for the fun and for promoting Royal Caribbean products in a different way, one that users can accept with more patience.

The question is when will this patience disappear. After all, we all once thought that banner ads are the greatest advertising tool on the web.
