There is a new website in town and it's called Zicasso. Basically, what it does is to send the user a few trip plans, created by travel agents and tour operators, based on a tour description the user provided. Despite the disappointing fact that you have to wait up to 48 hours in order to get some information (which is a bit 2002), I decided to give it a try.
In April I will be in Washington DC for about a week, and thought it might be a good idea to get a nice trip plan with a things to do list and so on. So, I filled in the trip request form, in which I wrote about my intended trip, my main interests (architecture, museums, concerts) etc. I also mentioned that I do not need a hotel room as I have already booked one. In the budget field I chose "Under $500" (Israeli salaries are a joke, I know). Two days later I got a friendly email from Zicasso, telling me that "Unfortunately, they (the tour agents - I.M.) both declined to offer you Trip Plan itineraries, because they do not think they can provide you the services you want at your specified budget".
Now that's a bit insulting, isn't it?... and I believed a $500 budget for a list of attractions and transportation options should be just fine. After all, I assume that the majority of tourists don't have a choice but to travel on a low to medium budgets. For now, Zicasso cannot offer them too much. Let's hope it will perform better in the future.
